Anesthesiology Research Focus
Our department is home to a vibrant research community with a longstanding legacy of innovation. Across our premier basic science laboratories and internationally recognized clinical science centers, we have helped transform the fields of anesthesia, pain, cardiac protection, neurobiology, regenerative and precision medicine, infectious and inflammatory disorders, global health, and more. Our faculty drive groundbreaking initiatives through affiliations with UCSD’s Sanford Stem Cell Institute, ACTRI, the Institute of Engineering in Medicine, Sanford Institute of Empathy & Compassion, Center for Psychedelic Research, and InnerScience. We foster a thriving culture of multidisciplinary collaboration that spans the globe and includes premier regional partners such as Salk Institute, Scripps Research, Sanford Burnham Prebys, and VA San Diego. Led by Dr. Veronica Shubayev, Vice Chair of Basic Science, and Dr. Mark Wallace, Vice Chair of Clinical Research, we are advancing scientific discovery and training the next generation of leaders in anesthesiology.
